Insaan ki sochne, mehsoos karne, aur rozana zindagi mein kaam karne ki salahiyat ka theek rehna.
English Definition
Mental health refers to your emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing. It affects how you think, feel, and act — and how you handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Good mental health does not mean being happy all the time; it means having the inner resources to cope with life's challenges.
Mental Health vs Mental Illness
Mental Health
Mental Illness
Everyone has it — like physical health
A diagnosed condition that affects functioning
Exists on a spectrum from struggling to thriving
Requires professional assessment
Can be maintained and improved
Treatable with therapy and/or medication
Affected by daily habits and environment
Can affect anyone regardless of background
Detailed Explanation
Mental health is not a fixed state — it goes up and down depending on what you are going through in life. In Pakistan, mental health is often misunderstood or reduced to extreme cases of illness. Many people believe you only need help if you are completely unable to function. But mental health includes the everyday experience of managing stress at work, dealing with family conflict, grieving a loss, or simply feeling persistently empty without knowing why. Ignoring mental health does not make problems go away — it often makes them harder to address over time. Taking care of your mind is not a luxury; it is a necessity.
Roots & Origins
From Old English haelan, meaning "to cure, save, make whole, sound, and well," heal carries an older sense of restoration rather than mere repair. Read in that light, support around mental health support can be framed not only as symptom management, but as a return toward wholeness - mental, emotional, bodily, and relational.

Mental Health in Pakistan
Mental health remains significantly under-resourced in Pakistan. According to the World Health Organization, Pakistan has fewer than 500 psychiatrists for a population of over 220 million. Studies estimate that 10–16% of Pakistanis suffer from common mental health conditions, yet the vast majority never seek or receive help — largely due to stigma, lack of awareness, and limited access to services.
